I saw a motorhome gutted by a fire on the side of the road by a lake, a family's summer vacation dreams stolen by inconvenient combustion. I saw the edges of storm clouds above mountains stealing the last pink of daylight out of thin air. I saw a black bear, a coyote, a moose. But the whole time all I could think about is how the tire on the back of my motorcycle could spontaneously implode at any moment with it's inner construction bared to the asphalt below it. I rode from Revelstoke to Calgary with my mind fixated on moderating my speed (no easy task, thoroughbred motorcycles like to run fast) and listening for the shrapnel breaking free from the wheel with one foot ready to lock up the rear wheel brake and one eye on the side of the road looking for a soft landing spot. And so today's photo is of that which occupied so much of my day's thoughts.

Hell's gate. We rode motorcycles from Calgary to Vancouver. This is the only picture I have for the day.

That's right, it's the end of May, and it's snowing in Calgary.

This reminds me of a drawing I did in my sketchbook. If I can find the drawing I'll scan it and put it here as well.

Found it.

Alright, here we go. For a week I'm parking the big camera and walking around with the pocket point and shoot. Every picture will be low-fi, out of the camera, no mods, no adjustments in Photoshop. If I owned a Polaroid that would be what this week is about but since I don't resist innovation as much as people might think I do I'm using the modern day equivalent, a Canon SD550 Powershot. Turn it on, push the button and voila, a picture.

Andrew Whiteman from the band Apostle of Hustle who played at the HiFi Club this night. You might know him from Broken Social Scene or, if you're an old fuck like myself, Bourbon Tabernacle Choir.

I have to confess I cropped this one. 99% of what I post is uncropped, that's part of the challenge.

Finally, an image I'm not embarrassed to put up. It's quickly becoming my signature I guess, these fringe shots that bend contexts. I like this one. Perhaps I will miss these skies when I move away from here. And some of the people. But probably not much else.

Perhaps I should change this to My Daily Snapshot...

I've been distracted by the sale of my store. It's hard to focus on anything (pun intended) when you're letting go of something you've put 8 years into and, well, pretty much drunk any time you're not at work. But that's another story...
