It's amazing having a kitchen again.

Damned rat set of the mouse trap and laughed so not it's time for the big guns.

I haven't seen my friend Ami in about a year. Catching up was facilitated by taking photos with Ilford black and white disposable cameras, Art Spiegelman at the Vancouver Art Gallery, paddles of beer at the Alibi Room, and pork scratchings at the Bitter Tasting Room. What a lovely way to spend a sunny Saturday in Vancouver.

Good knives are a delight. That wee one second from the right is the latest addition and was wonderful the other night when I used it to skin a couple of pears for a delightful desert of poached saffron pears with homemade ice cream.

Valentine's Day. I took this photo this morning around 9am. Didn't take a single photo after. My work was done.

I did something tonight that I haven't done in years. I rebuilt a pair of Campagnolo brakes. I took every last little spring, washer, and set screw out of them, dismantled the brake shoes, cleaned, greased, and lubed each bolt, washer, adjuster, and installed some new brake pads. I really miss working on bikes some days. They are pretty magical machines.

The rest of the story...

I take a photograph every day. To get that photograph I usually take a few photographs. Sometimes, if there's a hard choice to be made, I'll put up more than one photo. Other times the hard choices get buried on a hard drive somewhere. Last November I had a computer die. Since then I've had a few extra photographs that didn't make the daily cut. Like a blooper real or an out takes extra, here are some that didn't make the cut since the hard drive death. Enjoy. Or not.

First thing cooked in my new kitchen, blueberry pancakes with the help of my favourite prep cook, Miss Sophie. Best. Pancakes. Ever.

There really is only one way to test a fridge. Tomorrow I'll be testing the stove with pancakes.

All through China town there are tunnels and back alley accesses that were built during WWII. There was a curfew for Asians living in Canada during the war and these tunnels and passageways were built to allow them to move around after hours without going out on the streets where they would be arrested.

It's been suggested there are fewer tunnels than rumored and city engineers have outright denied any of these tunnels existed though in the late 90s workers were digging up Alexander Street for repair and found a six foot diameter tunnel that extended 30' in either direction before being terminated. The repair crew didn't pursue it any further that that, filled the void that shouldn't have been there, and repaved the street.

This photo is of a narrow laneway that leads off Pender and branches off in two different directions connecting most of the buildings of the block with a walkway system that is hidden from the street and the laneway.

Night driving. Deserves a perfect night.

On a date that is a palindrome there's this. Architecture containing nature while nature consumes architecture. The sentiment of the photo was intentional, the two way relationship happening on a date that is a palindrome is completely accidental. Funny that.
