Bina visits from Vienna. She donned the better part of a disguise.

The magic of a camera phone allowed me to complete the disguise for her.

It's an amazing little meadow in the middle of the city where you can't see the mountains or the city, as long as you don't turn around.

Brussel's sprouts are quickly becoming my favourite side dish. Especially when they are large and fresh.

There's nothing quite as lovely as receiving a real, hand written letter in the mail, and today I was privileged to receive one from my dear friend Sabina. 7 years on and they are still some of my favourite photographs. She's pretty wonderful, and she's reminded me I owe more than one person a handwritten letter in the near future.

"I should probably take a spring carrier too, just in case."

"No problem."

Glad I did.

Obsolete skill, rebuilding 9 speed Campagnolo shifters, but it keeps the bike on the road and parts out of the landfill. It's a shame they don't build them like this anymore, but I guess there's no money in making shifters you can rebuild 15 years later for about $25. And so it goes.

Insanity. All these new buildings just plopped down on their lots with no consideration for orientation, like they are made of tissue paper and blown into place by a fart. It almost looks like a collage of building photos but, no, this is how they look.

Nothing exists in a vacuum.

Gehry said something along the lines of the only reason the Dancing House can exist is because of context. Without context they are pointless. The whimsical and fantastic are only possible with an understanding of "normal."If nothing is normal, nothing is fantastic. These buildings in Vancouver seem to exist out of context, or without context. It's dizzying.

Architects have been here before. We should be learning from our mistakes.

Funny, as I was posting a couple of days ago I was wondering what happened to those strange trailer things that looked like tarps draped over some odd "thing" that would be seen around Vancouver from time to time. And then today, for no good reason, I was at 57th and Prince Albert in Vancouver, I never go there, and there it was.

Summer hasn't really started yet and it feels like the days are getting shorter. The weather has been amazing, hot, humid, lovely here in BC. It reminds me of Ontario summers, which, ironically, is where I'm going to tomorrow and where the weather has been unseasonably cool.

The days are getting shorter. It seems wrong that this happens at the beginning of summer as you try to cram more into this time of year. Like the pressure to make this the best summer ever isn't enough, today was shorter than yesterday. Tomorrow the kid and I go to Ontario. There will be a motorcycle trip when I get back, maybe, if I can figure out a way to weld a rack for my motorcycle in the fleeting days.

I've never wanted less to do, just more time to do all the things I want to do. It's important to pay attention to the light, to the days. Right now they are getting shorter.
