They were never supposed to be "photographs," the images in this blog. This one is proof, I suppose. And in a way it's ironic that a photograph of a photography exhibit is the worst picture I've taken in a while. I'm alright with that. I took better photographs today but I picked this one. 12X12 had their opening tonight at the Salt Building. I took part last year. This year I was out of town when it happened but I plan on taking part next year. Best I can tell the photos are hanging for one night only. That's too bad, there's some good stuff hanging in there.

Old book. New book. I love the history of the old, and the potential of the new, and how time can make things beautiful. I like how even though both books are the same, the old one is so much thicker, like the ink in it has mass and has ballooned the contents between the covers to a point where duct tape is needed to contain it. I like this picture a lot, I've been thinking about it for a week now, and here it is.

Time machine. Appropriate that I shot it with film. And now that I've rediscovered Kodak T-Max there may be a lot more film in the future. I have a couple of rolls of colour to go to the lab this week, if they work out too there may be a whole mess of film in my future. Is it better than digital? A resounding "no." But it's pretty neat sometimes.

I walked around with a film camera today. The one sign is more iconic than the other but I couldn't decide which one got picked for today so, well, here's two pictures. Oh yeah, and same composition. I do this on purpose, believe it or not.

Almost midnight. And no picture taken. So you pick up your camera and you look at something that's right in front of you so often you don't notice it. And you take a photograph of it. For better or for worse.

Like knuckle tattoos, L O V E - H A T E Instagram is the most evil application for iPhones available. Really. And yet I understand it. It's like shopping at The GAP, though you may not be on the cutting edge of fashion or even have any understanding of style, there's a good chance you'll come out looking alright. Instagram makes everyone an artsy photographer. It will make your snapshots of drunken shenanigans look monumental, it will make your day at the beach tabloid worthy, it will replace a million snapshots and photographs worth of learning techniques and equipment. And I wouldn't begrudge any budding photographer, mom, student, Joe on the street, a collection of beautiful photographs documenting their lives/activities. But it still feels like cheating. So I tried cheating.

Pretty much the only reason a person spends 5 months growing a beard is for the 5 minutes you have the best mustache in the world...

She doesn't get much in the way of "allowance" but every so often she has a few bucks from one source or another and she isn't much for understanding economic theory. If she has five dollars, she'll get her face painted. Seems about right to me.
