14-3-31

Sunny days deserve two photographs.

14-3-30

Still no sun but the days have been brighter.

14-3-29

And then she was home. She's been away for a bit, and I was away before that. Breakfast out, pancakes, was a good way to start the day. I barely noticed the grey skies.

14-3-28

The air had mass, and it prevented me from flying.

My tooth hurts.

It's Friday and it feels like Tuesday.

14-3-27

3 days back from Vienna. My teeth hurt. No one seems to know where the sun has gone.

14-3-26

A theme. But the days are similar so why not. My jaw is sore.

14-3-25

Not eating much. I find I'm grinding my teeth. Strange days.

14-3-24

Both cats welcomed me home by taking turns having a sit in my freshly emptied suitcase.

14-3-23

Last day. Even Vienna is changing. Slowly, but changing. I'm not sure I would call it "gentrification" but there are glossier and slicker entities filling the voids left by places like this. I'm not sure how much history is associated with a place with an English name, but it still felt like it was a loss somehow.

14-3-22

Gracious hosts.

14-3-21

18 stories above Vienna, the reflections of the ceiling in the windows made the sky look like it was on fire. Sadly, the drinks were expensive, the food unaffordable, and the service mediocre. The view was worth it for a drink, and then we went elsewhere.

14-3-20

14-3-19

We rode 60kms to the vineyards around Vienna and sampled wine in the shops run by the vintners. It was a magical day.

14-3-18

Budapest subway. I like Budapest, it's poor and dirty and, well, honest. It's the head prints on the wall above the benches in the second image that I find so fascinating.

14-3-17

People live here. No big deal. I feel like I live on the wrong continent.

14-3-16

Budapest, Hungary. The Danube.

14-3-15

Museum of Modern Art in Vienna. Gerhard Richter and Bruce Nauman pieces. And more.

14-3-14

Back in Vienna.

14-3-13

Mies van der Rohe. In Berlin.

14-3-12

This picture doesn't do the space justice. Each little blue square is a hand crafted block of mosaic coloured glass. It was beautiful.

14-3-11

I didn't take many photographs this trip. I'm not sure why. I did take a lot of photos this day but none of them made an impression on me as much as this one. On the sidewalks of Berlin, in front of the buildings where Jews were taken away to the camps, there are these brass blocks embedded into the sidewalks with the names of the people who were taken away. There was the Holocaust memorial, the Jewish Museum, and the Museum of Terror on the site of the Nazi era SS Headquarters. But these little brass blocks are real, and terrifying, because there were thousands of them. Thousands. Thousands....

14-3-10

Berlin.

14-3-9

This is the entrance to where I stayed. It looks special, but it's really not special. There are new buildings too, but most are like this.

14-3-8

Bina turned 40, she's not in the picture, but Johann made burgers for about 15 people, no one in Vienna eats burgers. I mean, they have a McDonalds or 3, but still, no one in Vienna eats burgers.

14-3-7

14-3-6

Flying to Vienna. Dusk. Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.

14-3-5

Going to Vienna in the morning. Can't wait.
