15-5-16
It's rare I get to spend the night out in the garage putting a bike together. I had to wait until near midnight to do this one. It's still a treat, especially when the bike in question is a Supercorsa.

Portacatena. Italian for "chain carrier." For a very brief time Campagnolo made a version of their Nuovo Record shifters that had a little thumb lever that allowed you to shift the chain off the freewheel and onto a metal disc that bolted on to the inside of a bike dropout so that the wheel can be quickly swapped out in a race. You'd quickly press in the tab and shift. Done. Somehow, I have a set of these. The tab is bent but not broken and otherwise they are in pretty good shape. Not sure what I'm going to do with them, but there they are.

"Winter's on the way.
I should have had my wood by now
If I was going to stay.
But it looks like I'll be leaving.
Up to now I was hoping you would change your mind.
But any more is dreaming.
It's the past and I'll have to learn to leave it behind.
But isn't it a pity?
So now I have to find
Something new to do that I can call my own,
Something to believe in.
After I finally shake this devil of mine,
This believable demon.
Well I don't say I can beat them
But you know I'll be trying
While I'm in the city.
Well here am I ready as I'll ever be.
I'm feeling equal parts of lonely and of just being free.
I'm not expecting miracles.
So farewell and good bye.
Here's to us just for being such a good try.
And let's just call us even.
And let's just call this a song
To remember us by.
Now if I sang it pretty,
We could call this a song to remember us by.
If I sang it pretty."

I had a chance to buy one of these a few years ago for a very reasonable price. They have since more than doubled in price. I don't regret losing out on the appreciation in value. I regret missing out on driving one of these.

I used to think if I had a bunk bed I'd always want to sleep on the top bunk. But the bottom bunk is a pretty awesome place to be too.

These train cars, I never see them move, though they change in number and location quite regularly. Sometimes there are none at all. Sometimes there are many. But I never see them move.
