This one didn't quite turn out the way I wanted. I might try it again in a week or so.

It's probably a little too saturated for even my liking, or not enough because it still has a semblance to a real place, but it's a good picture for me because everything was so washed out in rural Alberta today as I rode my motorcycle through the countryside and yet this image has life.

Again, part of the Home series. It's becoming an interesting subtext. I don't put up all the photos I have for this series, perhaps that will be the next project...

I've been switching back and forth between two cameras and the difference in aspect ratio to me is like a punch in the face. The Nikon is a bit squatter, the Canon a bit taller. It's not much of a difference but it feels huge right now.

I noticed this spot in my neighborhood about three days ago on one of the very few occasions I didn't have a camera on me and I've been itching to get back there. In hindsight it's good that I had to go back because if I had a camera on me the first time it would have been the Canon and I think the squatter ratio (even if slightly) is more suited to this composition. I know, I could crop the taller image, but that's never been what this project is about. I would suggest that less than 2% of what is on here has had any cropping done and I can only think of one image that I've cropped significantly. Other than that they've all been full frame images composed on the spot.

I sold my friend a camera today and bought a new one, the one that I've been using for the last few days. The new camera is as close to a rangefinder camera you can buy today, without actually being dumb about it and buying some mediocre semblance of a romantic ideal that Helen Levitt would have thrown out in favour of a Costco point and shoot if she were given the options we have today. The camera I sold and the one I bought were pretty much equals, but I like the new one because it's clumsier though I will probably miss the old one because it's taken at least one entire series of pictures in the palm of my hand while this new one is slightly too big to accomplish the same thing.

My friend and I sat on a patio and ate some food, drank some beer, and took pictures of each other laughing. We were really laughing as honestly as anyone could laugh. Belly laughs, without modesty. And it felt good.

If there was any doubt about my affinity for William Eggleston before this day I think I've put it to rest with the third photograph of a tricycle this project has seen. It might not be the last either.

I couldn't deal with the first pic I posted for this day. I like this one a lot more. It's not that I don't want to post pictures of my daughter. I like this one as it captures the confusion that undoubtedly exists in a one year olds perception of "stuff" on her birthday when her home is invaded by strangers crouching around her and there's boxes full of brightly coloured things wrapped in brightly coloured paper. That's why this image is black and white, to remove the brilliance of the present and to focus on the mind trying to absorb and make sense of it all.

There's a garbage strike in Vancouver, and the streets are slowly filling with the waste of lives lived. Within that there was this, seen as found, cast aside narratives, like a proud family posing in front of their home, these two pose in front of where they come from.

Welcome to my new FaceBook portrait. Funny, this is what I came up with the same day I visited Corbusier's apartment where he lived for 30 years and my last day in Paris. Huh...
