Last day of August. Last day of summer? Fall doesn't officially start for another 3 weeks, but somehow September signals a change in season. For a while there it was just another month but with kids it signals that annual change when school starts and there's a whole new set of demands on your day. The kid is in grade 10 this year. We ate barbequed pork chops for dinner tonight. Time....

I'm not sure why these sorts of landscapes appeal to me so much. Part of it is probably context. This doesn't look like Vancouver. No mountains. No ocean. The curbs are gravel. Those houses are all about $1.5 million but you'd never guess that from this picture. There are a lot of disconnects in this photograph when you know where it was taken. This was taken around Slocan and 22nd Ave in Vancouver. www.rew.ca is where you'll see how much houses are worth here. I'd link a listing but they change so quickly as things sell.
There's something about those trees too. Like they are accidents. Or sad reminders that all this was forest once. I don't think they are natural. I suspect as the land was cleared to build houses someone thought it good to plant some trees and while most of them have probably been taken out by strong winds or impatient owners or from just being old and precarious, these two stragglers persist.

I found this strange artifact on the street. I'm not sure what it is, or where it came from. The plug type is familiar; contemporary even, but the lump it's attached to seems to be from a completely different time. I left it there. Someone has written their name on it. I will assume they will be back for it.

Selling this. I've owned a Pathfinder in one form or another for 8 or 9 years now. The first one was green with way too many miles on it for it to run as smoothly as it did. I broke it driving through the Mojave Desert. The front strut ripped through the wheel well on a particularly rough stretch of road. I drove it some 2200kms or more home checking the rip in the wheel well every time I added gas.
The first one was so reliable and cheap to run I bought another one. This one. But it's kind of cursed. It was a lemon from day one with a habit of drinking oil. I say that it was a lemon but that's the only problem it has and I just got used to adding oil every time I got gas. Recently the brakes went soft so a master cylinder is in order. Not bad for four years of ownership if that's all that went wrong with it. But fixing brakes on a car that drinks oil isn't on my agenda so I'll sell it or scrap it.
There's a new car. There might be a picture of it here one day. Maybe not. It's even older than the Pathfinder, but with less kilometers on it.
There's nothing special about this picture. It's just where I was today. Nothing more. Nothing less.

7 stories below grade. Looks like there's room for 10 stories total below grade. It's a metaphor for....something.

I could take a thousand photographs of these light bulbs. I may have taken a thousand photographs of these light bulbs.

Rain came. It was the first time it's rained in Vancouver in over 50 days. And then a record was set for the amount of rain that fell in a single day on this day in history, or as much of it as we know about.

Clouds. It hasn't rained in Vancouver in 50 days or more. The clouds are a welcome sight. It's supposed to rain tonight. And a little more over the weekend.

New camera. Top photo was the new X100V, the bottom was the old D750 with a 60mm macro lens. I very much like the new camera but there's no denying the old camera is a more powerful tool. That being said, I'm very grateful to have both.

Was this the product placement Pepsi was hoping for? If so, where's my cut for this cup being on my lawn?

I like these urban photos that look very rural. 12th and Clark in Vancouver. That's a $1.5 million dollar house or thereabouts.
I also like the single light being on. There's a feeling of loneliness.
It's a late night photo with a new camera. The Fuji X100S has done it's duty and been replaced by a Fuji X100V. I love/hate these little cameras. The X100S was used and abused for 8 years which is a long time for anything digital. It's life isn't over but it's life with me is over. I'm sure it has some good pictures left in it.
The X100V, well, it's new. It's so familiar while being so different at the same time. I'm getting used to it. Some of the changes seem arbitrary. Some are "improvements" I also would have made, until experiencing the "improvements" first hand. The ISO dial being an analogue thing makes sense on the surface. I would have done the same thing, until I used it. And I worry that it might not be as durable a control as it needs to be. It's a delicate pull up ring thing reminiscent of an old Pentax Spotmatic. But different enough in how it works that I don't have a lot of faith in it lasting 50 years like the Spotmatic. Hopefully it lasts 5 years.

Home. This little car got me there and back. I very nearly didn't take a photo today. It's good to be home. Tomorrow the car gets a wash and an oil change. In the next 12 months it's going to get a new top, a new steering wheel, and maybe a turbo. The Pathfinder on the left? Maybe I'll just set that on fire.
Home.
