I've gotten pretty good at baking sourdough and there's just about nothing better than fresh sourdough with some old cheddar and a slice of tomato and some salt and pepper.

Henri's house. I have some pictures of this house to share one day. It's changing. A new family. It makes me happy that the house was saved. They are putting a lot of work into it. The green truck is the electrician there at some time after 5pm. But it's becoming a home. I like that.

In 1996 I came to Vancouver and met my friend Chris Grimley who was attending UBC. He took me to Joe's for an Americano. It was my first real understanding of Italian coffee. In Italy they call it a "cafe longe"(don't believe my spelling) which is a an accurate description for a "long coffee" or a espresso with a bit of boiling water added to it. My understanding of the lore is that Americans would visit Italy and have a hard time drinking the strong espresso that Italians had grown to love so the Americans would ask for extra water to thin it out. So the Italians were making fun of the Americans by calling it an "American"; code for "watered down coffee for American tourists who can't handle real coffee."

I make not claims to how legitimate that statement is.

I drink Americanos. Mostly because I want to prolong the coffee drinking experience. I like a good espresso as well. When time doesn't permit, or I'm travelling abroad and trying to really appreciate the coffee I'm being served it's more likely to be an espresso.

Many things in Vancouver change from day to day, week to week. When Joe's shuts down the city can burn. For all I care.

Still life. In a mall. "Death of a Mall."

20-11-3

It only took 8 years, but now that it gets dark shortly after lunch I've prepared my stairs with a set of lights that will prevent me from skidding out on slick wooden treads. A dimmer to follow, they are a tiny bit too bright. And one of those fancy timer light switches that knows the seasons and your latitude and will turn the lights on when the sun sets. The future is now, 8 years too late.

So many fireworks. So much noise. It sounded like war had set in on the coast. I have no problem with fireworks. But; fireworks....

 This one makes me happy.

Edit: I feel like I bite my tongue with Blogger a lot lately, and say more than I've ever said before. I've uploaded to Blogger in high res, low res, as a tiff, as a jpeg, all sorts of variations that I can think of. The purple cloud around the tree? That's not in the original. Blogger seems to be struggling with all of my darker images. Lots of shadows. Lots of ghosting. Lots of noise. Not good things for a blog based in photography. I don't know what the answer is. I still like this photograph. I just don't like what Blogger does with it.

Layers. My apartment is small. It's mostly one room, well, maybe two rooms. It's strange to see it from this perspective.

I managed to get out of the wood shop before the sun went down. It was cold last night. I woke up to frost on the ground this morning. By mid afternoon once I emerged from the wood shop it had warmed up enough for a walk down Commercial Drive. Sunny days are to be savoured this time of year.
