The rooftop here has some amazing views. Across the street is our shelter. If you look closely you'll see the development signage. It's soon to be replaced with 40 stories of rental housing and probably a movie theater or fast food restaurant or something.

And below; an art piece. Photographs of the hands of people in the DTES. Many are likely dead, and those who are alive are likely alive because of us.

This drawing below; it's a hand drawn ink on vellum plan of all the sewer lines in Victoria BC. It was found in a vacated room. Hundreds of hours? Maybe more? I hung it on the workshop wall ten years ago. Maybe I'll take it with me.

One more, from the rooftop. I'm uploading the full resolution image. The view is pretty great. Click on it to see it full size.

I'm changing jobs for the first time in 16 years. I'm taking photos of the buildings I've spent my life in for so many days, weeks.... Key photos. Like this one from a fire stair landing with an incredible view of the docks and the mountains on the North Shore. I have an office in this building. It faces this way too. It's one of the best views in the city.

And the picture below. It used to be called the Washington Hotel. That neon was on the building back then. It's pretty much where I started my journey here because it was my first full time line with the company. I was going to work here for a year. 16 years later.

Almost every photo on here is landscape format. The Washington is tall and narrow. The hallways feel like you're on a ship being less than five feet wide. Fred Herzog took a photo of the entrance to this building many years ago, and another one out front of a guy that looks like he had just been in a fight. You can see the neon sign behind him. It's been on fire at least once. And now it's called The Maple. There's a rumor that staff bought the old neon Washington sign on eBay for cheap. No one knew it was for sale.

Surprised my kid at work today. I'd love to play in a shop like this all day.

Lasagna. From scratch. Best part about Italian cooking is making sure the rest of the bottle of wine you needed for the ragu doesn't go to waste...
