26-2-19

I'm changing jobs for the first time in 16 years. I'm taking photos of the buildings I've spent my life in for so many days, weeks.... Key photos. Like this one from a fire stair landing with an incredible view of the docks and the mountains on the North Shore. I have an office in this building. It faces this way too. It's one of the best views in the city.

And the picture below. It used to be called the Washington Hotel. That neon was on the building back then. It's pretty much where I started my journey here because it was my first full time line with the company. I was going to work here for a year. 16 years later.

Almost every photo on here is landscape format. The Washington is tall and narrow. The hallways feel like you're on a ship being less than five feet wide. Fred Herzog took a photo of the entrance to this building many years ago, and another one out front of a guy that looks like he had just been in a fight. You can see the neon sign behind him. It's been on fire at least once. And now it's called The Maple. There's a rumor that staff bought the old neon Washington sign on eBay for cheap. No one knew it was for sale.
