A million dollar poodle. And the Bloedel Conservatory. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating the cost of the poodle.
Vancouver monuments.... ongoing.

Science World. Or, rather, Telus World of Science. I was on my way to a friend's house one night and he called. "where are you?" "I'm just passing Ontario Place."
He was from Ontario as well. He knew of the iconic Bucky Ball there and made the connection to where I was in Vancouver. No questions asked.

Vancouver Monuments. A black and white photograph exists in contrast to these orange icons of the northern perimeter of Vancouver. It wasn't my intention to do a series of black and white photographs. Maybe that will change tomorrow.

Lion's Gate Bridge.
It was a gift of the Guinness family. Yes, that Guinness family. Apparently the Guinnesses bought a whole bunch of really cheap land on the North Shore that was hard to get to, then offered to build, for free, a bridge to get people there. The city said, "sure" and overnight the land the Guinness family bought for cheap became very valuable. There's a long history of shady real estate deals in Vancouver.

I don't know. The clocks have changed. I see the same things every day. I take the same photos. I've taken this photo before. Though it's been a while, though I may have missed a more recent iteration, I remember there being a more recent iteration.
So a challenge? A challenge. Monuments. Vancouver has a few, I think, I think Vancouver may consider them monuments anyway. It gives me an excuse to photograph Science World, and some cars stuck up on a post disguised as art. Again.
Maybe I'll find the million dollar ceramic poodle. Maybe a gilded tree. An iconic bridge. A building by Arthur Erickson. A building by the Patkaus. A red letter W.
A week of monuments. Heck, maybe even two... though I'm out of town towards the end of next week, so not two.
I'm not the first. I won't be the last.

European brown food. Austrian. Pork schnitzel and regional potato salad. It was about as good as one could hope for on a dark, rainy night.

Bernadette makes boudin noir. The Oyama Sausage Co. makes it periodically. You have to put your name on the list and you might get a call a few months later. Bernadette put her name on the list and I was lucky enough to be invited. So. Good.

Fig tree refuse. It's two weeks of daily raking, and a month or more of fruit flies feeding off the figs squished on the bottom of my shoes. Worth it, I think.

I haven't bought a loaf of white bread in decades. I lost a battle to a memory of a grilled cheese sandwich made with white bread and cheese slices (another thing I haven't bought in decades) and I made the classic white bread and processed cheese grilled sandwich. And I hate to admit it tasted better than I thought it would. Good even. But it's out of my system, and truthfully, it's not as good as an aged cheddar on homemade sourdough grilled cheese sandwich. I just didn't expect to be so close a runner up.
I made a vintage PB&J with the bread as well. It was, well, it was pretty bad. I guess frying a thing makes a difference.
Anyway, there won't be another loaf for another 20 years or so. If ever.
