If you're not taking photos of the Ken Lum East Van piece, you may as well be taking photos of the the harbor cranes. It was a lovely sunny day though. Snow tonight, they say, whoever "they" are.

Semi-public art space. What?

I imagine working for Phillips as a brewmaster would be a pretty amazing job to have. Or a label designer. How fun would it be to make new beers all the time? I should polish up my resume.

14-11-12

You've been on the road too long when brushing your teeth is this exciting. Hour 23 of about 28 total. Teeth needed brushing.

It's fun to blame the smell of cow on the bum of your co-pilot. And I think it's a good sign that I still find fart jokes funny. At least I can relate to fart jokes with an 8 year old. Or maybe that's a bad thing. I don't know. I don't care either. "Sophie! Did you fart?"

It's in the heart of Anaheim, and yet Disney does such an amazing job of making it seem like it's in the middle of nowhere, or everywhere, or like nowhere else exists. It's like they've stood in every possible vantage point and made sure you can't see reality, or where you are is as much reality as possible. It's truly incredible. There's a taller roller coaster in the Disney California park and at the highest points there are half tunnels enclosing the track. I thought them odd but realized afterwards they are designed to stop you from looking at the outside world. You might be able to see beyond the park in the other direction but I'll never know because the coaster was amazing and I couldn't see more than a few feet ahead of where the tracks were going. Disney is the ultimate experience in controlling the experience. (click on the photo, it should be relatively large and detailed for this blog.)

And the hotel offered a "continental breakfast" with the room rate. Apparently the continent is sprinkled. And shaped like a donut.

Just another roadside attraction. (disclaimer, I've never read anything written by Tom Robbins.) (Not even Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, I didn't even watch the movie despite thinking Uma Thurman is one of the most beautiful women on the planet.)

Road trips. Going to Disneyland with the kid. It always seems like a good idea at the time. The first big bridge, and still in Canada. Only 1320 miles (my car is an import from the USA) to go. This is the second time I've driven that Nissan to Disneyland. It's not lost on me that in the 3 or so years I've owned it, I've driven it a lot more in the USA than in Canada. Probably close to 80% so, so it's nice to have a speedometer that reads in MPH and an odometer that clicks off in miles. Anyway, the car still smelled fresh, the skies were optimistic, and all the occupants of the vehicle had brushed their teeth a reasonable amount of time ago. That would all change.

No filters. Slight adjustment of contrast. The light was like this, and amazing. But anything I tried to do to fix the photo, to get rid of the banding, only made it worse. I'm shooting more film these days. Most times I think it an idiosyncratic luxury and an indulgence and that generally digital is better. Generally digital is better. Less grain. More versatile. But with film the sky doesn't band like it did in this digital photo taken with a fairly well respected camera.

I don't know what any of that means.

New bike tires. Hand made in Italy. Like there's any other way. There are cheaper tires, lighter tires, more durable tires. But nothing rides like tires hand made in Italy.

The fact that I'm posting this at 6pm is a good indication of how dark it is already. It doesn't do how much rain is falling justice. It was torrential this evening. And still another month and three weeks of days getting shorter. Winter....

Yes, Oscar, I wish the rain would end soon as well.

November. And sunlight. It's lovely.
