He made himself comfortable on the back deck at around 6am. He's been there ever since. The cat is upset. The raccoon isn't concerned.

Merry Christmas

I took a day off. I might take more days off.

Christmas Eve snowboarding with the kid.

Historical document.

18-12-22

The Fujifilm X100S has some crazy bad lens flare effects. It rarely gets used at night. But it got used tonight.

Christmas Party 2018. Name brand salted almonds. Wild....

18-12-16

deja vu. deja vu. deja vu. oh no, it's happening again.

18-12-15

The landscape folly distorted, perhaps. Is that the motive? Or the accidental result? I believe the river is man made, a way to handle some aspect of the wetland Vancouver is built upon. It results in an idyllic moment of almost nature, until it's used as a sales feature for yet another high rise housing project. At this stage the apartment may read as folly, but it won't be long until the landscape is subverted by the built, irony noted.

One rack eyelet and a barrel adjuster casting. The eyelet gets cut in half and the barrel adjuster casting gets brazed to it, and then onto the frame. The result; custom shifter cable barrel adjuster stop.

18-12-12

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... (less than 2 weeks to go)

18-12-11

Kent's Kitchen. I've been eating here randomly since 1996. In 20 years a meal has gone from $4.95 to $7.50.

18-12-9

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. This was the second time I watched it this weekend. The Coen Brothers do very little wrong. Even their movies I hate I find I love upon further review. I hated Llewyn Davis, the first time I saw it. I hate that I kind of liked it the second time I saw it. Buster Scruggs; I liked it the first time, liked it even more the second. There will likely be a third viewing before too long. It's a gooder.

The little car on the right, that's mine. A 1997 Miata with 90,000kms on it. I just sold one. Missed it. Bought another one, in better condition, with less than half the miles. No ABS, or cruise, or leather or power windows, or power mirrors, or bilstein suspension, or BBS wheels, or.... but the new one has 200ml more displacement, 25 or so more horsepower, a better rear dif, and 120,000 fewer kms on it. No rust either. I didn't need the first one. I don't need this one. I've done dumber things. Road trip with Sophie in March will help me decide if this was a good idea. Time will tell. I usually does.

18-12-7

Townes Van Zandt on vinyl. Lovely.

18-12-6

I'm not a fan of HDR. But I didn't see any other way to get what I wanted to see in this photograph. A dollar store in front of a million dollar sunset in a billion dollar city.

18-12-1

Sunny days in December.

18-11-30

Over a decade, this is the first time someone else has taken the photograph. An accidental dinner of schnitzel, steak, and potatoes. Good food. Amazing people. I'm blessed.

18-11-29

PechaKucha.

18-11-28

I've been reading more lately. It's been good. I am thoroughly amused by the table of contents for Stefan Zweig's The Post Office Girl. I've made good progress on Part One.

18-11-27

Rain yesterday. Sun today. More rain is promised for tomorrow.

18-11-26

"...and the sky opened up..."

Torrential.

Homeward bound.

18-11-22

Island bound.

18-11-21

BC Air Filters. Half a step removed from Dunder Mifflin, only real. I can't imagine working here. Or, more frighteningly, I could imagine working here.

18-11-20

Gigi's. There's probably a story here.

18-11-19

Sold this car today. Already shopping for another one. Selling this one was probably a mistake. Buying another one is probably a mistake. I've made lots of mistakes. Why stop now?

Ferry rides to Victoria.

These are monuments to the past, or a fleeting present.

The project has been cut short, I'm off to Victoria tomorrow for work.

Woodwards. That spinning red W has been an orientation point for decades. It can't be seen from as many locations anymore, the city has grown up around it, but it's a Vancouver icon. No doubt.

19-11-12

The kid and I went for a bike ride around Stanley Park. It was a beautiful day for it. And while monuments like the Totem Poles and the yellow pile of sulfur on the north shore would have been easy targets, this bronze it truly iconic.

Vancouver monuments. Icons? Or similar.
