iPhone picture. And a great way to paint the side of a building.

Yes, it was amazing. Yes, it was worth the drive to Council Idaho.

Going to TrumpLand™ tomorrow. See you in a few days. Be well.

Night swimming deserves a quiet night. The photograph on the dashboard taken years ago, turned around backwards so the windshield shows. Every street light reveals a picture in reverse, still it's so much clearer.

Shades of Stan Douglas' Hogan's Alley. But everything is derivative, right? And his is a computer generated 3D model, a photograph of something that never existed, with such exquisite detail and perfect exposure. Every black is just perfectly black, every highlight is a tenth of a percent away from being blown out. The file is mammoth, as in, I've stood in front of the original and it's bigger than a sheet of plywood. And you can stand with your nose touching the surface and not see any fall off in the details. I might be exaggerating, but that's how I remember seeing it.

This image isn't computer generated, though I guess it is, since it's digital through and through.

There's something disturbing about the Douglas "photo" in that it's just a little too perfect. The other aspect of it that's off is there is nothing living in the photo. No people, no trees, no grass. The ground is smudged dirt with blobs of different coloured dirt on them. There are no weeds growing up along the fences. It is lifeless. I don't know if that was intentional or if they just forgot to add them in, or if just wasn't possible to do as effectively as everything else.

Like blackheads, Vancouver is obsessed with scraping bits of itself off of itself. Relentless, this city is, in the effort to destroy itself. It's insane. Sold in 1976 for $75000, and again in 1995 for $760000. Twenty years later, 2015, and it's worth $3370000. 2 years later and it's assessed at $4121000 by the city.

No, this photo isn't of the house in the article. They don't let hooligans like me into those neighborhoods. My house has gone up in value by about a million dollars in the 8 or 9 years I've owned, give or take. I don't understand it. I don't know if I want to understand it.

The forest fire smoke let up enough to show Vancouver some clouds. It was lovely to see clouds. If one cared to look north the mountains revealed themselves again for the first time in over a week.

Homes. In various states of decay.

Colour. Digital.

Mr. Weeds. I have a few more pictures from this day but they are still in the camera, and I'm back onto digital for a bit. I might change this photograph one day, depending on what's on the roll of film still in the camera. Or I might not.

Port Mann Bridge. Wow. What an incredible structure.

17-8-6

We hiked up Skyline trail. Steeper than the Grouse Grind, though not as long. We at a sandwich at the top, saw the remains of a jet engine from a fighter plane that crashed on the mountain in the 50s. It was harder to walk down than up. But it was a good day.

Sourdough. From scratch. Naturally leavened. Very, very good.

There's a 60s Mustang under that tarp. It's been there for 5 years. I've never seen it move.

Elliot Erwitt

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”   - Elliot Erwitt

The little Fuji digital has returned, repaired for less than they said it might cost. I've developed another roll of film tonight. In another day or two we'll be call caught up. But, going to be honest, I've liked shooting film. There will likely be digital for a bit. I have a Mamiya 645 that's underutilized. 15 images per roll of film. Maybe I'll do a 7 day, 2 images per day experiment with that stupid thing. And a bonus picture at the end.

Photographs again tomorrow. Day after at the latest.
