She'll hate me for posting this photo but this is what cancer looks like.

My lovely little Canon S100 died today. This is the last photograph it took. It's since been sent to Canon for repairs but I'm not optimistic. Hope for the best but expect the worst. Or something like that. I think it might come back to me functional and stuff. If it doesn't I'll buy something else. I'm already shopping.

This was the best choice for the job, but even if it wasn't I might have picked it anyway for how amazing the label is.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one

The Hollywood Theater on Broadway was bought by a church recently. Sadly, they don't show many movies, but on the way to Christmas they decided to show It's a Wonderful Life. The projectionist found a chunk of film in the can that had been extracted from the original 35mm print. He spliced it back in. The result is we saw a version of the film with some pretty heavy kissing that was deemed too sultry for the masses the first time around. I've never seen this movie all the way through before. I'd seen bits and pieces of it, for sure, but this was the first full sitting. Amazing. Such a treat, the venue being the cherry on top.

I have another picture from today, of the other eye. It also has a scar above it. I'm doing my best to remember where the scars came from. I believe one was from jumping up and down on my bed and I managed to try and stick an entire headboard into my eye. I failed, but I managed to cut the skin above my eye. The other, I think, was from being a "helicopter" in my living room as a kid. I got very dizzy and tried to cram a coffee table starting with one corner of it into my eye. Again, I failed, but there's proof of the effort. I'm not sure which incident gave me this line on my eyelid, and most of the time I don't notice it, but when I'm tired, which feels like a lot of the time lately, that scar pushes my eyelid down over my eye. I should sleep more. I should do a lot of things more, but, as a good start, I should sleep more. And I should notice my scars more.

And then the Rainier Hotel, the only women's transitional housing that exists in the DTES of Vancouver, loses its funding. How is that a good thing?

"I have an idea for an art project. Can we take a picture of us?" Of course we can.

12-11-24

Felt inspired to take a photograph today. It's been a while.

12-11-23

Pecha Kucha night. With Aiden Knight opening. Not as intimately wonderful as a living room show where he is going to "play some songs and see how it goes." But pretty spectacular nonetheless.

So many missed days lately. It's unintentional. And something that needs to change.

The Wooden Sky played at the St.James community center. Amazing show. It's probably worth watching all five parts of this.

Lovely morning for a mountain bike ride.

Stair railings. So not up to building code. So much more awesome than what the building code would let me do.

"The most photographed sign in Vancouver." - Christina Davey

12-11-14

Miss Sophie was to have her tonsils out today. For many complicated and not so complicated reasons it was decided that she would get to keep her tonsils, at least for now. She was so brave and was actually disappointed that she wasn't going to get them out. Though I suspect she was more concerned that she wouldn't get the ice cream and pudding that was promised her. Once she was reassured that, for a day or two at least, she would get extra ice cream, she was alright with not getting the surgery.

12-11-12

The "new" urban civic center. So devoid of humanity. So devoid of humans.

12-11-11

Dusty old Leica. I should take way more photographs with this amazing camera.
