Simone de Beauvoir

Two quotes, for the price of one, which was free, if you're keeping track.

"If you live long enough, you'll see that every victory turns into a defeat."

"One's life has value, so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by ways of love, friendship, indignation and compassion"

- Simone de Beauvoir

More film. The roll should be finished tomorrow. And then another update.

The green ivy clinging to the grey of a dead cherry tree, in black and white.

Big who? In other news, adult video stores still exist.

So there was a camera with film in it, and the ISO was set to 160 and the only 160 film I've ever bought is Portra, so I assumed colour 160 film and shot as such. When the roll was done I rewound it to find TMAX400 black and white film in the camera. These are beautiful blue hydrangeas, in black and white, shot on fast film at a slow ISO. As are the next few days of photos. For all the flexibility that digital affords you, film is surprisingly forgiving.

Alberto Moravia

"The truth is that one easily forgets what one does not want to remember."

         - Alberto Moravia.

And yet, there is little I want to forget... though there are things I want to forget, I wish I could forget.

Shooting film again. I think. I don't remember what I loaded into the camera but when I thumb the lever the canister side turns like there must be film in there. I think it might be colour. I'll know for sure in a day or two...

I took 2000 photographs over the last 2 days at Vancouver's Folk Fest. It's a daunting task to even begin to filter through all that crap. But this guy, Leif Vollebekk, damn, that kid could play a song.

Marlon Williams was quite good at Folk Fest today. Quite good.

Digital. Guess that means I'm off film for a bit. Or maybe I start with film again tomorrow.

That mountain. This photograph wouldn't have happened if I was shooting film today.

Oregon coast. Love it.

17-7-12

Astoria, OR. One of my favourite places on this planet.

Finally getting around to fixing this bike. Reworking some cable stops, and new paint.

Lake Chilliwack.

17-7-8

This is the first time I really wish I was shooting digital lately. The light was low, the details got really muddy really quickly, but there's so much going on in this picture. Some sharpness and colour would have helped a lot. But still, I'm liking film.

......

 This fascination continues.

As does this one.

You don't use black and white film to take pictures of the sunset. Part 7.

It's Canada Day. I took the day off.

If there's one thing I've learned about film it's that people tend to close their eyes more when you're taking their picture.

The kid and her mom leave for a road trip today. They won't be back for nearly a month. It will be the longest I've ever been away from that little punk.
