Fishing rod, check. Hooks and stuff. Check. Fishing license, check. Wait, what's a "bait casting" reel? Really? I have NOT the skills to make that work properly. Right then, emergency side trip to Canadian Tire for fishing rod #2. And then Lake Chilliwack, where I threw bait and hooks and lures into the water with the song "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" going through my head for three hours while doing so. Not even a nibble. Could have bought a lot of fish with the $300 I spent on gear and a license. Would I do it any differently if I could go back in time? Nope. Will I do it again? Yup.

Just about the best way to get cream into your coffee at the end of your delicious meal is with a small ceramic cow with a hole in its mouth as a spout.

"Delicious meal" provided by Grub, the lamb was amazing.

The media was reporting that the moon was closer and brighter last night than any other night of the year. "Super moon", they called it. The moon should have appeared 14% larger but to the naked eye that difference would have been indistinguishable from how it normally looks. Still, I dusted off the tripod and got out my big lens and snapped a photo of it. I wonder about getting a lens doubler and getting an even closer shot of the moon. It seems like a lot of effort (and money) for one photograph.

But yes, it as pretty brilliant and bright and beautiful. It always is. Still, it's nice to be reminded to look up once in a while.

It was five years ago that the City of Vancouver decided to reclaim this plot of land from a social housing/low cost housing development that had stood here for years. There was outrage and opposition for sure, and protests about the loss of a housing development when there was a shortage of housing in this city, affordable or otherwise.

Fast forward to today and the lot is still sitting vacant waiting for a viable strategy for redevelopment. We were promised a higher density development with as many or more affordable rental units as were in the original development. The roads are slowly sinking into the ground. The barricades protecting the trees from mythical construction machines are beginning to sag. The only thing one can be certain about is the land is worth more and more each year and there still isn't enough affordable housing in Vancouver.

Probably not the most inspiring fortune I've ever received.

I feel like I've lived in these boots the last few weeks. Another renovation push, this time repairs and maintenance in the rental unit. Again, the rental unit gets more luxurious upgrades than the rest of the house. So it should, I may have to live down there one day...

Ended up north of Gibson's at a friend's cabin. It was pretty stressful.

For about $4500 I can add about 150 supercharged horsepower to this car. It already can't handle the 300+ horsepower it has. Hmmmm.

I've put insurance on the Guzzi again. As usual, it's been three weeks now and I've ridden it twice. I have some strange distractions...

Day two of basement renovations. By the end of it I peeled off these pants I've been wearing for 24 of the last 36 hours and chucked them out the door. Tired. So tired.

13-6-1

Basement renovations dominated most of the day. When I finally decided to take a breath and look up this is what I saw, the end of the day.

Bill the Electrician. I didn't know he had a last name for over a year after meeting him.
