You can hear their song, it makes them sway. Dancing is really about capturing moments that defy gravity. And photography is about moments that transcend time. The camera made them still but if you had been there in the moment I took this picture you would have seen them dancing.

The building was on fire twice last night. (Smokey The Bear says, "Hey kids, if you're feeling tired and want to take a nap, that roll of toilet paper on your table is not a good place to rest your lit cigarette.") And Car87 was called, which is the police car that deals with people who are no longer compatible with the world. But on the way home I saw this which made me realize that there's a lot of us that aren't that far away from a ride in Car87 and yet things are generally pretty good.

Again, the view from where I work. This is at dawn as the buildings are just tall enough to grab onto the sun. You can sense the relief the neighborhood feels as it's bathed in sun once again. Or maybe that's just me. But I'm big on metaphors.

This doesn't do it justice. It's my ride into work. With where the sun is relative to the equator these days I ride into a sunrise on my way home and into a sunset on my way into work. This is on the way in. I don't feel like a moth but it's nice to feel the sun on my face at both ends of the day.

There's a distortion, when you take pictures of someone else's art. Is it documentation? Interpretation? Does it have merit? I've said it before, the current iteration of this blog is less about art and more about the things that make me smile. This made me smile today.

Another one out of the jig. They keep getting better. This one, it feels really good when you hold it in your hands. It feels really good.

We must all remember being there.

The skies rivaled those of the Prairies in their magnificence. Iona Beach is a rare part of Vancouver that appears amazingly flat and with but a hint of the mountains you might be anywhere but where you actually are. It's been ten years since I've been to the spit but I don't think it will be that long before I visit it again. It's an amazing place to spend an afternoon.

It's been a while so I figured it was about time for another self portrait. Might be time for a shave as well.

His name is Fatty, or Fat Bastard. Handsome Devil might have been his name as well, I suppose.

There's such a potential energy in vans. They represent to me the perfect size for a survival kit for one or two people, there are two seats after all. I could fit a bike in there, a camera or five, a laptop, an iPod, a bed, a girl and probably her bike as well, and a healthy collection of books, and a couple of folding chairs. There'd be room for an exceptionally large bottle of gin, a cooler with ice and tonic and the fixings to make a decent sandwich at the side of any road. Not everything would fit but I don't really need everything.

This isn't my van. My van doesn't have stars on the side of it but maybe one day it will.

It's a hard light to capture and I wouldn't suggest I've done it here either.

Despite their best efforts it was realized they couldn't control everything.

This might be the only time I'll ever use my cell phone camera but somehow the crappy picture of a security camera that takes crappy pictures seemed appropriate.

I'm living on coffee these days. Night shifts. It's about all that keeps my eyes open sometimes.
