Cell phone photo. You know, at this scale it looks pretty great, but if you zoom in you can see all the details look like they've been put through a filter that removes all the noise and smudges and infills the colours and the details. It looks like a painting.

Those great cell phone pictures we're all raving about? They look like crap.

Really, on your phone screen or in an email maybe they look alright, but up close.... not so much.

Garbage.

There's a fear I have that this "good enough" photography will undermine the availability of decent cameras moving forward. For the last two decades, cameras have been thoroughly digital, and technology dies. What happens to photography when all the pixels turn to... dust. Pixel dust? Pixie dust?

We're not there yet. It feels like it's coming

Rather innocuous. But those lower branches have been removed to make it harder for homeless people to live under the tree hidden from sight. Even the trees are a part of our built environment.

I've definitely taken this photo before, but I believe the building was yellow last time, and the awning green. I'm sure the door was painted a different colour then, too, but I can't remember what colour it was.

Three years later and the battery died. $2.95 spent and it should be good for another three years.

 Photos I took at shows...

Dallas Good died about a year ago of "natural causes". He was 48. There's nothing natural about that. I took that photo at Lee's Palace in Toronto a bunch of years ago. Long live The Sadies

The other photograph is of Vic Chesnutt. He's from Athens Georgia. He played a show in Vancouver in 2008-ish and that's where I took the photograph. He was dead a year later. A car accident put him in a wheel chair in 1983. Technically he was a quadriplegic, only being able to play "simple chords" on a guitar. A moody and brilliant musician that fought depression, he died of an overdose of muscle relaxants he took to manage his pain from the accident. His ex-wife by default owns the rights to all things Vic Chesnutt and has refused to release anything posthumously. It's a shame.

Pictures of dead people....

Dave asks, "What's wrong with this picture?"

"It's impossible to get a sunset and a full moon in the same direction."

"True. And there's no such thing as free WiFi. Someone always pays."

The kid is in metal shop class. She's welding me up some speaker stands. Raw parts. The problem with modern education? Her school ran out of acetylene. They got a new tank after a week or two and then promptly ran out of oxygen, so the parts came home and we'll weld them in the garage here.
