A man on the street sold us hamburgers. He didn't ask what we wanted on it. He had one burger on the menu; a double cheeseburger. $14 cash only. He didn't take our money until the burgers were ready. When he handed us the burgers he said, "wait about 10 minutes before eating them." "They are better after 10 minutes?" "They are better after 15 minutes. I've been holding onto them for 5 minutes. They were done 5 minutes ago."
It was one of the best burgers I've ever had in this city. I'm sure it's all he does. His truck was parked on Commercial Drive, where I've never seen a food truck before. He was working alone. His menu was a chalkboard painted on the side of the truck; most of it was erased. Except for; "Double Cheeseburger." That's it. That's what he was doing that night. And he did it very well.
