Five years ago this was a home for the homeless. Before that it was a community garden. Now....

 Chicken pot pies from scratch.

Done. Also, the first two photos were taken with my Pixel 6. This one with a Nikon D750. The cell phone cameras are getting good, but they aren't quite there yet.

Days and days of rain followed by a day of sun deserves a couple of extra photographs before the sun set at 4:28pm today. Long shadows. Short days.

21-11-12

Today I went for a walk with a "real" camera. D750 with a Sigma ART 35mm f/1.4 lens. It's all much heavier than a cell phone. And I had the cell phone with me as well. In the world of photography there's lots of debate about whether the camera makes a difference. "The best camera is the one you have." Chase Jarvis said that. Others have too. I think that's wrong. I think the best camera you have is the one you use, but it's not necessarily the best camera. If all you have is a cell phone camera, then that's what you use. But you'll never convince me it's the best camera, though by today's standards, it's a pretty great camera.

I didn't take many photographs today. But I liked them all more more than what the cell phone gave me. Like Sears, cameras are fading from the landscape we live in. Like topiary sculptures, there will always be real cameras because no matter how impractical they are, some of us will continue to walk around our world with a heavy lump of photographic equipment in our should bags. For a while anyway.

21-11-10

With a bit of light the details come back. It's a pretty great cell phone camera. So far.

21-11-9

That's a week of cell phone pictures. Maybe I'm done. Maybe not. I guess I'll know tomorrow.

21-11-8

This cat will live in boxes if he has his way. He loves them.

The weakness of the phone camera comes out in low light. Everything is muddied and blended together. All detail is lost. In defense of the phone, it was really dark when this photo was taken and it's been pushed to the limits of what was captured to get here.

I like it though. And things I didn't notice; the label on the box is a colour study of the art in the frame to the left and back. I like the blue of a dusk sky in the background.

21-11-7

A bit Instagram-ie. A bit HDR-ie. Kind of hard on the eyes a bit. But all done in phone/camera. Punch can certainly be added to a gray, overcast day with a few filters and sliders.

21-11-6

Pan fried chicken hearts on a rustic tomato sauce served on focaccia toast. All this from scratch.

21-11-5

Magic Eraser ™ removed a light standard from the right side of the frame. And the camera filters gave the sky colour and warmth.

21-11-4

New phone. New phone camera. Today is the first of.... many? A few? that the pictures will be taken with a cell phone camera. Maybe it's all I'll ever use from here on in. The technology has gotten pretty good and I certainly like the size of the equipment.

Oh, editing is being done in phone as well. Maybe I can save on cameras and an Adobe subscription as well.

21-11-2

I've never invested in new technology upon release until this phone. The Future Is Now!!! And yet, I plugged my 3 year old phone into this one and all the stuff moved over and there's just enough changes to make it frustrating to use, and not enough different to make it feel better than what I had.

I like it though. Mostly because the battery lasts longer than 8 hours. It's fast. It's big. It has a lot of battery. It has some new tricks. But it's just a phone. A really good one. But still.

No regrets though. It's a better phone than my last one. And it forced me to clean up my excessive downloaded library of podcasts.

The camera in this thing is supposed to be incredible. Coming soon to a blog near you; a week of cell phone camera photographs....

The SkyTrain track weaves its way through the fabric of this city and is the drive behind so many developments. I live near the SkyTrain. A house 2 blocks away from me sold for twice the assessed value this week. $2.4 million dollars. It's an unreal amount. I hope that amount of money finds my house in about 5 years. Sooner even. Why not?

This building is slated to be knocked down. That space; maybe a swimming pool? I don't know, but on a sunny day like today it must be an amazing space to be in.
